PREMIUM TALKING TIPS: Guide to Tipping in the U.S.

In some countries, tipping can be rude. In the US, however, it’s a part of everyday life. Here’s some tipping advice for visitors to the US.

Restaurants and bars: You should always tip restaurant servers about 15% to 20% of the bill, or more if the service is excellent.

Hotels:When staying at a hotel, it’s polite to tip the cleaning staff about $2 to $5 per night. Leave a “thank you” note with the tip in your room so the staff knows it’s for them.

Airports:There’s no need to tip airport check-in staff or flight attendants. But if someone helps you with your bag outside the airport, you should tip about $1 to $2 per bag, or more if your bags are heavy!
