Germany’s Health Minister, Jens Spahn, wants to make parents vaccinate their children against measles before they’re allowed into schools or daycare. If parents don’t vaccinate their kids, they would be fined about $2,800. Spahn has said that “vaccines avoid pain and suffering,” and that he wants to “protect all children” from getting measles.
There are several reasons why some parents choose not to vaccinate their children, including religious reasons and fear of the more serious, but rare, side effects. Others believe that some vaccines might cause autism.
