Capitalization

 

 

1. When names of relatives, such as mom or dad, are used as substitute to proper nouns, we capitalize them.

Incorrect: I called dad yesterday.
Correct: I called Dad yesterday.

 

2. When names of relatives are used with titles, we capitalize them.

Incorrect: That is uncle Sam’s dog.
Correct: That is Uncle Sam’s dog.

 

3. When names of relatives are used with a pronoun, don’t capitalize them.

Incorrect: I play with my Sister.
Correct: I play with my sister.

 

4. When generic names such as mountain, bridge, market, station, island, etc. are used as part of the official name, we capitalize them.

Incorrect: My family and I went to Jeju island.
Correct: My family and I went to Jeju Island.
