Espressoenglish.net (www.espressoenglish.net) stated the following rules:

Use a lot of  before nouns. can be used with both countable and uncountable nouns. A lot is used after a verb.

Use so and very before adjectives.

In informal spoken English, it’s common to use “really” instead of “very”:
